Different types of boom lift rentals
Common people like us, who’re not acquainted with the construction industry think that the only types of lifts that exist are the elevators that take us from one floor to the next. You’d be surprised by the number of lifts that exist out there, specifically in the construction and building industry. One of them is the boom lift.
A boom lift is a device that consists of a machine which holds a moving aerial work platform that is supported on an adjustable stand. These lifts are used for reaching those areas for work, which are not often easy to access. Boom lifts facilitate movement of the work platform both horizontally and vertically. They can fit in either one person or multiple people depending on the space it has. They can move easily from place to place as the base machine is a four-wheeler, that can stand on any type of terrain, no matter how uneven or smooth.
Boom lifts are used often in various industries like designing, building, carpentry, masonry, construction and such others. They can be either bought from manufacturers or sellers or hired from boom lift rental services providers. There are different kinds of boom lifts that can be used according to the purpose one wants to serve. These are as follows:
1. Articulating boom lifts
This is also known as the ‘knuckle’ boom. It has a bucket attached to a swiveling turntable towards the end of an articulating arm. It provides both horizontal and vertical flexibility, making it the best fit for most types of jobs. They can reach around 125 feet and can extend horizontally up to 75% of the height. This boom is extendable in sections as well, allowing workers to maneuver disruptions. They can be used both outdoors and indoors. Outdoor booms are mostly diesel-powered while indoor ones are electrically powered, comparatively smaller. Indoor ones also have smooth tires while outdoor ones have rough tires to adjust to the uneven and rough surface.
2. Telescopic boom lifts
Like articulating boom lifts, these lifts too have a bucket at the end of the telescopic arm. However, they provide more vertical height as compared to other boom lifts. Also, the major difference is that the arm can extend out only in a straight line, which is why in these kinds of lifts the arm moves out horizontally first then moves up and down as per operation. Usually, these arms can move to heights of 40 to 80 feet. Sometimes, the bigger models even go up to 185 feet in height. They usually have wider standing spaces for workers than articulating boom lifts. Because of a single boom, they are easier to operate than articulating boom lifts. Boom left rental providers deem this one as the most convenient, easiest boom lift to use.
3. Atrium lifts
These are a different kind of boom lift which like others, doesn’t have wheels but excavator tracks for movement. This is beneficial as these kinds of lifts can navigate any type of terrain without difficulty. Atrium lifts are lighter than other boom lifts and the most height they can reach is 60 feet. They also have folding outriggers which keep them anchored in place. Being light doesn’t stop them from being able to carry heavy loads. If you’re unsure about the kind of terrain you have to work on, go for atrium lifts because they can navigate any kind of surface. Boom lift rentals are a dominant industry in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad among other cities.
